Information Technology -- CIO
As CEO and founder of Research & Planning, Inc. (R&P), Dr. Gruber built a multi-million dollar consulting and software business with a client base of many large users of information technology and many of the leading information technology and data vendors, including: IBM, DEC, H-P, Wang, Lotus, IBI, Reuters, Telerate, Knight-Ridder, National Computer Systems, Group Bull, Data Resources Division Of McGraw-Hill, Chase and Citibank treasury workstation services, and Bankers Trust loan syndication software product. R&P assignments for information technology and data vendors included business strategy, niche domination strategy, business services such as outsourcing strategy, competitive intelligence, market intelligence, and customer and staff training. Dr. Grubers consulting assignments were facilitated by his forecast of the strategic use of information technology, when the information revolution was still very immature, and his development of the job title and responsibility of the chief information officer (CIO), a concept that he co-invented with one his clients who was senior vice president of information services at the Bank of Boston. As president of R&P, Dr. Gruber was responsible for a number of assignments with large users of information technology and data which included assistance in technology strategy, technology-based business strategy, technology architecture and vendor selection, staff development and training, and information services management practices. R&P clients included multiple pharmaceutical companies, multiple health care providers - hospital, nursing home chain, HMO, and multiple bank, insurance, securities companies; money managers and Institutional Investor. Dr. Gruber has also consulted with multiple large consulting firms. Dr. Gruber was on the Advisory Board of PC Expo, and he served as judge on the CIO Magazine evaluation of top100 CIO Global leaders.
